Over the last three years I have been through so many phases of the infamous "trial and error" cycle. Though it was not and is not always comfortable I have learned so much! I have learned what works for me personally as an entrepreneur as well as what works as universal principles for any entrepreneur. I will say, I DO NOT HAVE ALL OF THE ANSWERS. In fact, I have very few but I do have five that anyone can live by. Even if you are not in the entrepreneurial field you can apply these things to your life.
1. PLAN
This was perhaps the most difficult yet most important lesson that I've had to learn. I was not the most organized person before I decided I wanted to one day be able to work for myself. But that was no excuse for me, I learned. I use calendars, planners, write out business plans, and journal. All of these things have helped me to become better at operating my blog, online store, speaking engagements, extracurriculars, and personal life. Balance is such an essential part of becoming successful.
2. FOLLOW THROUGH WITH WHAT YOU HAVE PLANNED
This one was also hard for me. In the beginning I would plan but never follow through with my plans and then get upset when they would fall through. I still struggle sometimes with doing this but day by day I am getting better with sticking to what I have planned to do. It all boils down to accountability, we must learn to be accountable for and to the things we have committed to.
3. LEARN TO BE RESILIENT
I think this is my strong suite. No matter what has happened I have always always bounced back! You all have to bounce back! Trial and error is a part of business and a part of life, we can not avoid it. So, don't allow it to destroy you or your dreams!
4. SAY NO!
Say, "NO!" I don't mean to actually scream this at others but say no. If we allow it people will take and take from us and never pour anything into us physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Do not allow this in your business and most certainly not in your life!! You can not and will not make everyone happy and that is just fine.
5. NEVER GIVE UP
No matter what KEEP GOING! So your first plan didn't go as you had hoped it would? That's perfectly ok, perfectly normal. Back to the drawing board! Think of all the really successful people in the world. Do you think that they got it right on the first try? No. So, you have no right or reason to stop trying. It will eventually work out.
BONUS
6. GO THROUGH THE PROCESS!!!
You find out what works best for you and your business/life by going through the process. Although the process of success is not the most comfortable to be in, endure. All of the things that I have mentioned are a part of this process and there is no way around them. If you truly want to be successful in life you must accept that it will not always be ideal. It will not always look pretty and flow like water. But the fulfillment that you'll have will outweigh all of these things if you do it right!!
Well, that's all that I have for now. I hope that I have helped to encourage someone with this post. Feel free to leave me a comment, I'd really like to know what you guys think it takes!
XO, Jasmine.
This is my first time visiting your blog and I am loving what I am reading. I do not own a full fledge business per se but I do have a small cosmetic business on the side. I put a lot of time and effort into my regular 9 to 5 job. And the tips you gave about being successful I am applying them there. I am going to continue to follow your blog. Peace and blessings
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reading!! It is my hope that you are successful in all of your endeavors. Keep me updated!!! Please share with someone. Blessings to you!!!
DeleteExactly! Saying no is the hardest thing for me to do, but over the past few months I've learned how to do it a little easier. I found myself getting burnt out on the things I loved because I refused to tell others no. Learning to tell others has allowed me to get back to the things I love.

Faith, I am so glad that you have also learned to say no! It too was very, very hard for me to do but I am still learning to exercise my "NO."
DeleteThanks for the above tips.
ReplyDeleteLike you said I'm very good at the planning processes however I don't always follow through or even worst I leave the things I hate doing till last / or not at all sometimes. Love Sammy at Unzipped Fashion Source
Sammy, you're welcome!! I believe it is a process for all of us. It is something that we must stay diligent with in order to succeed.
DeleteStay focused and moving forward! Things don't happen overnight!
