The New Black Collective

Paradigm-

noun
1.
a typical example or pattern of something; a model.
"There is a new paradigm for Black excellence in this world, The New Black Collective."

When you hear the word "nonprofit", I'm almost certain that you think of those organizations we all grew up seeing on television commercials. However, we are here to bring something untraditional, something innovative, to the city of Waco.

The New Black Collective is a community organization that is dedicated to the improvement and the advancement of the community. Our organization is founded on three key principles: Amplifying the quality of life in our community; Promoting culture; Promoting education. We hope to accomplish these principles through community initiatives and partnerships with other organizations.

Our vision is to implement community initiatives that improve access to education, investments, opportunities, and sustainable services. The New Black Collective services the community through community events; through collaborations with other organizations with the same missions. Thus our slogan, “The Machine”. We believe that through developing interpersonal relationships we are able to sustain each-other.

Our founders, all Waco natives, attended high school together. We've been friends and confidants for more than half of our lives, soulmates if you will. The New Black Collective was birth during one of our montlhy hangouts at my apartment. We have a tradition of getting together to laugh, cook, and talk life but this time was different. This time our talk about life turned into an action plan. Having faced many hardships in our own lives we thought it only right to start giving back to a community that poured so much into us, and refused to let us fail.

This road to becoming The New Black Collective has been both challenging and rewarding simultaneously. We've grown more in love with who we are and what we represent, our culture and history. When you see us or you hear or name, we hope that you are inspired. The only way we change the world is by first changing ourselves. My grandmother once told me, "No matter how little you have, you always have enough to share." That quote is something that we operate in fully. With each event we remember that it is not about us but about those who may be in a season of helplessness. We've dedicated our lives to improving the lives of others. Even if we only have love and compassion, that my friends is enough.

Since we've started, we've been blessed to give to over 600 people in need and assist our community through courses that improve their quality of life. For more information about our organization, or to volunteer, please visit our website at www.newblackcollective.org
