WITNESSING REAL MUSIC

Last night I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the greatest artists to ever walk this earth perform. The highly sophisticated, most awaken, incomparable LAURYN HILL! You know how we all have like a bucket list, she was on mine. Seeing her perform was absolutely amazing but let me not get ahead of myself. Let's talk about how the concert went!

The opening act was absolutely amazing! Kirk Thurmond, a Dallas native and member of Kirk Thurmond and the Millennials, opened up the show by playing sweet sounds on his guitar as he sang his heart out! Before last night I didn't know who he was but I am certainly glad that I found out. From the songs he sang he sort of reminds me of Chuck Berry, for all of you music heads out there. His lyrics are just as compelling as his voice is and his humbleness is crazy amazing. I encourage you all to check out his music on iTunes and YouTube. For more information visit his website Kirk Thurmond.

Lauryn's set started out with her DJ spinning. I am a lover of all things 90's and this is exactly what he gave us! Not only did I automatically fall in love with his skill but his genuineness as well. He has to be the smoothest, dopest, most respectful DJ I have ever witnessed. In the process of getting us ready for Ms. Hill he engaged with the crowd A LOT. Saying things like "We are Kings and Queens, that means we are unified. Together and not a part." In a room full of people who all looked nothing alike. In a room full of diversity. He made everyone feel as ONE!

Shortly after Ms. Hill made her grand entrance and the room went crazy! She started the set with I Gotta Find Peace Of Mind from  her MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 Album. You guys, this is the moment I realized that it was really happening. I was really witnessing LAURYN HILL do what she does! I have waited my entire life to see her and this moment it was happening. Ms. Hill sang and rapped like it was still 1997! Voice still perfectly and exactly the same. She danced like she owed the world nothing and it made me feel so amazing. Seeing someone being totally themselves doing what they love even after life had given them lemons.

She went through all of the hits from Ready Or Not to Killing Me Softly to Ex-Factor. I am still in awe of how amazing she sounds. Last night is a night that I will never ever forget. I still feel so full and inspired from witnessing this amazing gift that God has given the world! But I'm going to shut up now and give you all a visual recap! Enjoy!
